New contract details about Borussia Dortmund’s Ian Maatsen emerge

Just three days after joining Borussia Dortmund, Ian Maatsen (21) found himself in the starting eleven against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday evening.

The Dutchman impressed at left-back, both defensively and offensively, and will have given fans a positive outlook on a position they’ve struggled in this season, with Ramy Bensebaini currently on international duty with Algeria at the African Cup of Nations, while Julian Ryerson has impressed in spells.

Details of Ian Maatsen’s contract

Borussia Dortmund reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Maatsen on loan for the remainder of the season. Before joining Die Schwarzgelben, Maatsen signed a contract extension at the Premier League club until 2026.

BVB’s loan of Maatsen doesn’t include a purchase option, but the player’s new Chelsea contract does include an exit clause. According to BILD, this is reportedly to be in excess of £30m- Dortmund also don’t have a right of first refusal for the player and so if the Bundesliga side are to sign the Dutchman on a permanent basis, they must activate Maatsen’s exit clause.
