Werder Bremen hopeful of keeping Niclas Füllkrug

Werder Bremen are hopeful of keeping Niclas Füllkrug this summer and extending his contract, according to Kicker

The German international is coming off the back of his best season ever in professional football. The Bremen forward finished joint top scorer in the Bundesliga and is now a regular name in Hansi Flick’s Germany squad. In fact, the 30-year-old was possibly only one of a small few German players who came out of the 2022 World Cup with an even better reputation.

Off the back of this comes transfer rumour and speculation. However, Bremen is yet to receive an offer for their prized possession. The club is hopeful that they can extend Füllkrug’s current contract which runs until 2025.

However, should they receive an offer of around €20m and the player is tempted, it could be difficult to see Füllkrug playing for the Green and Whites next season. At the moment rumours are quiet, however. The last reports come from April when Borussia Mönchengladbach were reportedly interested in signing the Werder Bremen striker.
