Bayern Munich reach agreement with RB Leipzig for the release of Max Eberl

Bild reports that Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig over the release of former sporting director Max Eberl.

Eberl’s contract is still valid at Leipzig despite being dismissed in September. Bayern will pay an initial fee of €3.5m and an additional six-figure fee to cancel the friendly game originally arranged when Bayern agreed to bring Julian Nagelsmann to the Allianz Arena.

Eberl himself will forgo any remaining salary or bonus payments that he was set to receive at Leipzig.

The former director is expected to become part of Bayern’s supervisory board whilst Bild also reports that he will work alongside Christoph Freund as sporting director. Eberl is set to begin his new role at Bayern in March and will help with the planning ahead of the summer transfer window.

Eberl is a native of Munich and came through Bayern’s youth academy before departing the club and eventually ending up at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
