Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza sustains injury on international duty

Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza suffered an injury during Algeria’s 2-1 victory over Niger on Tuesday, and it’s unclear as to whether the 20-year-old will be available for his team’s Bundesliga game against Mainz on Saturday, according to LigaInsider.

Maza had to be replaced in the 40th minute after challenging for the ball which resulted in an ankle injury. The 20-year-old tried to play on, but fell to the ground in pain before receiving treatment.

Maza has started, and completed four 90 minutes, in the Bundesliga this term under Carles Martínez – returning one goal and providing one assist. Establishing himself as a key player for Die Werkself, the Algerian scored five goals and created a further seven in 44 appearances across all competitions last season, earning him a place in his country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, where he featured in all four games.
