VfB Stuttgart interested in Alexander Meyer from Borussia Dortmund

VfB Stuttgart see Borussia Dortmund’s Alexander Meyer as their preferred candidate to replace the outgoing Florian Müller, according to Sky Germany’s Dennis Bayer

The Swabians, who have just survived relegation through the playoffs, will receive €1.5m for the backup goalkeeper as a move to SC Freiburg remains very likely. Müller appeared for Stuttgart in both relegation playoff games against Hamburg, which had delayed the deal getting over the line.

Throughout the course of the season, Müller has featured 22 times for Stuttgart after being replaced by Fabian Bredlow halfway through the year.

To fill the void, Stuttgart are keen on bringing Meyer from BVB and possibly making him the club’s number one. However, this all depends on the Müller transfer going through. Until then, any possible transfer for Meyer is on hold.

Meyer was signed by Dortmund last summer from 2. Bundesliga side Jahn Regensburg. Used mainly as a number two behind Gregor Kobel, Meyer did have to play several Bundesliga and Champions League games when Kobel sustained injury. Particularly against Chelsea in the Champions League, Meyer earned many plaudits.
