Speaking to media ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash against Schalke on Saturday afternoon, Thomas Tuchel discussed the title situation with the Rekordmeister currently one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund with three games remaining.
“With all due respect, I don’t even notice Dortmund at the moment,” said Tuchel. “We’re one point ahead of them. We have it in our own hands. I look at the finish line and at us, totally focussed. I believe that is the key approach.”
Tuchel also hinted that Leroy Sané could start ahead of Sadio Mané. The two made the headlines last month after a dressing room bust-up which resulted in the latter being suspended and fined before returning to the squad.
On Mané, Tuchel stated: “With Sadio, we’re all waiting for a bit of a breakthrough but for me, it’s about to come.”
Since his move from Liverpool, Mané has scored 12 and created five in 36 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich. Under Tuchel, the Senegalese forward has scored one goal in 398 minutes across eight games.
Bayern Munich clinched their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title last year in April but with three games remaining, just one point separates first and second. Tuchel’s side could move four points clear of Borussia Dortmund on Saturday afternoon, who host Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Topspiel in the evening.
After this weekend, Bayern Munich host RB Leipzig before travelling to Köln on the final day.
