Hamburg have officially completed the signing of Norway international David Møller Wolfe from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24-year-old left-back joins HSV on loan for the entire 2026/27 campaign and will wear the number three shirt at the Volksparkstadion. Hamburg have also secured a purchase option, reportedly worth an eight-figure sum according to Sport Bild.
Wolfe’s arrival had remained uncertain until the final hours of the window. Get German Football News reported on Monday that Wolves were prepared to sanction the Norwegian’s departure only after securing a replacement. The Championship side initially prevented Wolfe from travelling to Hamburg before eventually granting permission for the move to proceed.
The former AZ Alkmaar defender arrives with significant international experience despite his age. Wolfe has collected 27 senior caps for Norway since making his international debut in November 2023 and established himself as a regular for Stale Solbakken’s side during this summer’s World Cup.
Wolfe started all five of his appearances as Norway reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time. He was rested only for the final group-stage fixture against France after advancement to the knockout rounds had already been secured.
The Bergen native also brings Premier League and European experience to Merlin Polzin’s squad. Wolves paid approximately €12m to sign Wolfe from AZ last summer. He subsequently made 22 Premier League appearances during the club’s relegation campaign before featuring twice in the Championship this season.
Wolfe completes busy HSV deadline-day restock
Wolfe becomes another major addition to an HSV squad that looked considerably less complete when Get German Football News’ 2026/27 Hamburger SV tactical preview assessed Polzin’s options less than two weeks ago.
At the time, significant questions remained on both defensive flanks while HSV were still attempting to replace several of the exceptional loan players who helped stabilize the club during its first season back in the Bundesliga.
Much of that work has now been completed.
Hamburg already brought Sebastiaan Bornauw back to the Bundesliga from Leeds United in order to add experience and leadership to the centre of Polzin’s defensive line. The club then used deadline day to address both full-back positions. Moroccan international Zakaria El Ouahdi completed his €8m-plus move from Genk on Tuesday, giving Polzin the attack-minded right-sided option that HSV had pursued throughout the latter stages of the window.
Wolfe now supplies a similarly dynamic solution on the opposite side.
The Norwegian’s arrival formed part of an especially ambitious final transfer push that also saw Hamburg complete the permanent return of Fábio Vieira from Arsenal for approximately €9m. Vieira’s return restored the creative centerpiece of last season’s side while El Ouahdi and Wolfe substantially increase Polzin’s options in the wing-back positions.
Wolfe becomes Hamburg’s tenth incoming player of the summer and, together with Vieira and El Ouahdi, forms part of a deadline-day trio carrying a combined Transfermarkt market value of €47m.
Emir Sahiti leaves HSV for Hannover
One further piece of outgoing business accompanied Hamburg’s late additions. Emir Sahiti has permanently joined Hannover 96 on a free transfer after returning from his loan spell with Maccabi Tel Aviv. GGFN covered Sahiti’s temporary departure for Israel in January after the Kosovo international dropped out of Polzin’s regular plans.
Hamburg originally signed Sahiti from Hajduk Split in 2024. The winger contributed three goals in 22 league appearances during HSV’s promotion campaign, but found opportunities significantly more difficult to come by following the club’s return to the Bundesliga. He featured on the opening two matchdays before spending much of the remainder of the Hinrunde between the bench and stands.
The subsequent Maccabi loan effectively marked the beginning of the end of his time at the Volksparkstadion. After Sahiti returned to Hamburg this summer, sporting director Claus Costa confirmed that the club and player held open discussions and jointly concluded that the prospect of regular playing time remained limited.
Hannover now provide the 27-year-old with a fresh start in the 2. Bundesliga. Sahiti signs a two-year contract through 2028 and arrives as reinforcement for the wide attacking positions following Daisuke Yokota’s departure for Rangers.
The move closes Sahiti’s two-year HSV chapter.
