Jeff Chabot has a staggeringly low relegation release clause at FC Köln

As reported by Christopher Michel, Jeff Chabot has a release clause in his contract at FC Köln.

It is understood that the 25-year-old could be available at a considerably discounted price at the end of the season. There is a €4 million release clause in Chabot’s contract; however, this would only become activated should the Billygoats suffer relegation from Germany’s top flight.

This could, therefore, see a number of clubs across Europe turn their attention to the former German under-21 international. During his time in Köln, Chabot has garnered a reputation for being a classic centre-half due to his tough tackling and rugged nature.

He was also on the shortlist of another Bundesliga club during the summer, but nothing came to fruition. After the sale of Konstantinos Mavropanos to West Ham United, Stuttgart were interested in signing Chabot, meaning that they will undoubtedly have their eye on him should Köln face relegation.

After arriving from Sampdoria in January 2022, injuries initially plagued Chabot during his early days at Die Geißböcke. However, he has since gone on to rack up a total of 46 appearances for the club, and should he leave in the summer, it will understandably hit Köln hard.
