Konrad Laimer’s performance against Atletico Madrid on Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League is up there with one of his best in a Bayern Munich jersey.
An engine at right-back, the Austrian recorded 13 penalty actions against Atletico, the most by a defender in a Champions League fixture alongside Real Madrid’s Marcelo, in 2017, since detailed data collection began in 2003/04. Laimer doubled Bayern’s tally in the 74th minute and, interestingly, had no ball actions in his own penalty area.
“Konny is on an incredible run at the moment,” Tom Bischof told reporters, while Laimer, who was named Man of the Match, highlighted the importance of three points. “It was a thoroughly deserved win against a good team,” he explained. “These are three important points that will certainly give us another boost ahead of the next game against Mainz and the weeks to come.”
