Champions League Preview: Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig

On Wednesday night La Liga leaders Real Madrid will welcome RB Leipzig for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently 1-0 up in the tie, making them favourites to progress to the next round.

Despite this, Leipzig produced a an impressive and competitive performance in the first leg and are certainly not out of this tie yet.

Madrid were left frustrated last weekend as they drew 2-2 against Valencia and were controversially denied a winning goal in the final minute of the match due the referee blowing the final whistle just before Jude Bellingham headed the ball into the net.

Bellingham was given a red card for his protests.

They still remain top of La Liga and are seven points clear of second placed Girona.

RB Leipzig enjoyed a convincing win over the weekend as they thrashed VfL Bochum 4-1.

They currently sit 5th in the Bundesliga and are just one point behind fourth placed Borussia Dortmund.

Team News

Jude Bellingham will only be banned from domestic matches and is free to play against Leipzig. However he is just one booking away from being banned in the Champions League.

Madrid currently have three injury issues with David Alaba, Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao currently suffering from ACL issues.

For RB Leipzig, defender Mohamed Simakan will be missing through suspension. Lukas Klostermann will also miss the game through injury meaning that Costello Lukeba and Willi Orban are likely to be the centre back pairing for this fixture.
