Bundesliga Predictions | Round 27: Can Borussia Dortmund overcome Bayern Munich?

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund

It is hard to look beyond what people call The Klassiker on this matchday. Bayern versus Dortmund is going to be once again intriguing. But this time the narrative is so different. Dortmund aren’t the challengers and that might take all the pressure off them and allow to play the same way as they have in the Champions League this season. The Black and Yellows also head into the game as the third best team in the Bundesliga since the Rückrunde kicked off—Bayern are fifth and four points behind Dortmund. Based on form Dortmund could certainly win this but there is also another factor: narrative. A win by Dortmund would effectively make Leverkusen champions and that would be ironic in so many ways.

Manu’s Predictions:

Leipzig 3-0 Mainz; Leverkusen 2-0 Hoffenheim; Frankfurt 1-1 Union Berlin; Gladbach 0-2 Freiburg; Werder 0-2 Wolfsburg; Bayern 1-2 Dortmund; Augsburg 2-1 Köln; Stuttgart 3-0 Heidenheim; Bochum 2-1 Darmstadt

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund

The game of the weekend is unquestionably Dortmund’s trip to Bayern and despite the relatively good form that Edin Terzic’s side have shown in 2024, I suspect that the visitors will struggle at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening. Dortmund have yet to win any of the big showdowns with the other top four sides in the Bundesliga this season and I’d be surprised if this was any different. An in-form Thomas Tuchel team should win this game comfortably.

Stefan’s Predictions:

Leipzig 2-0 Mainz; Leverkusen 2-1 Hoffenheim; Frankfurt 2-2 Union Berlin; Gladbach 1-2 Freiburg; Bremen 2-2 Wolfsburg; Bayern 3-0 Dortmund; Augsburg 2-0 Köln; Stuttgart 3-1 Heidenheim; Bochum 2-1 Darmstadt

Scores after MD26: Manu – 162, Stefan – 179
