“A dream come true.” – Eric Dier on signing for Bayern Munich

On Thursday evening, Bayern Munich announced the signing of Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur. It is understood that the Englishman has signed a contract until the end of the season, with an option for a further year.

Despite Der Rekordmeister doing whatever they could to hijack Tottenham’s deal with Genoa for Radu Drăgușin, Dier could eventually prove to be the perfect answer for the Bavarians. Due to the length of contract and fee involved (€0 with a potential €2M-2.5M in add-ons), it is clear to see that this is a short-term fix for the record champions.

Injuries have hit Thomas Tuchel’s side significantly hard this season, and nowhere has suffered more than his backline. Therefore, with Matthijs de Ligt returning from injury in time for Kim Min-jae to depart on international duty with South Korea for the Asian Cup, Dier can fill any void left until the summer, when Bayern can reassess their options.

Regardless, if Dier is to flourish at the Allianz Arena, then it could turn out to be a remarkable deal for Bayern and for the Englishman, who stated his move to the club was like “a dream come true” when speaking to the media upon his arrival.

While it is unlikely that the 29-year-old will be in the squad against Hoffenheim as the Bundesliga commences once again after the winter break, he could feature against Werder Bremen on matchday 17.
