Official | Eric Dier joins Bayern Munich on a permanent basis

Bayern Munich have announced that they have completed the signing of Tottenham defender Eric Dier on a permanent basis.

It is reported by Sky Germany that Bayern will not pay a fee for Dier and the add-ons for the deal will add up to €2-2.5m. The 29-year-old will sign a contract at the club that lasts until the summer with an option until 2025. Dier will not be in the squad for Bayern’s game against Hoffenheim on Friday evening.

On his move to the Bundesliga, Dier said: “This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”

At Bayern, Dier can reunite with former long-time teammate Harry Kane who has taken like a duck to water during his first six months in the Bundesliga. Dier already has a defined role in the team with the defender being used as a backup for central defence as confirmed by Thomas Tuchel in his press conference (via @iMiaSanMia) ahead of Bayern’s game against Hoffenheim on Friday.

In the worst-case scenario, Dier may also be used as a midfielder. Still, due to the emergence of Aleksander Pavlović in recent months, it is unlikely Bayern will want to halt his progression.

Bayern will now look to sign a right-back who can play in place of Noussair Mazraoui who is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, whilst his performance this season has also been below par. Former RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele is heavily linked with a return to the Bundesliga.
