David Fofana recalled from Union Berlin loan by Chelsea

Union Berlin have announced that David Fofana has been recalled from his loan by parent club Chelsea amid reports that other teams are interested in taking him on loan for the rest of the season.

Fofana’s time in the capital did not live up to expectations, the Ivorian made a total of 17 appearances and scored twice for the club but his time was marred by disciplinary issues due to refusing to shake former manager Urs Fischer’s hand after being substituted.

Overall, the 21-year-old was a victim of Union’s poor form in the first half of the season which sees them sitting just above the relegation zone in 15th.

Despite Fofana’s departure, Union still have a host of attacking options as they fight relegation with Kevin Behrens, Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Volland, Benedict Hollerbach and Mikkel Kaufmann all potential options to choose from in the second half of the season.

Although both struggled last season, in hindsight it may have been a mistake for die Eisernen to loan out either Jordan or Jamie Leweling in the summer.
