Why Bayer Leverkusen have a good chance of signing Granit Xhaka

It was reported on Tuesday that Bayer Leverkusen were interested in signing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka. And now according to Kicker, a return to Germany could be possible due to the player’s private situation.

Per the report, Xhaka met his wife during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach. And now, she wants to return to the Rhineland. This means a potential move to Leverkusen, located a 20 minute train ride from Köln.

Bayer Leverkusen also showed interest in signing Xhaka last summer but a move failed to materialise with B04 put off by Arsenal’s €30m valuation. But with one-year remaining on his contact from the summer, Kicker suggest that Bayer Leverkusen may be able to get their man for a reported €15m.

Xhaka has become an important player under Mikel Arteta and has played 44 games across all competitions, scoring five and creating seven, as they challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

With the departure of Charles Aránguiz, Bayer Leverkusen are searching the market for a new No. 6.
