Bundesliga side FC Köln have today announced the contract extension of head coach Steffen Baumgart until 2025.
“In the past year, we made a clear statement: if things are working out for all parties involved, the contract will be extended for a further year,” said Baumgart.
“Anything else was out of the question. Why? Simply because it’s fun here, to work with my team and for FC. You can see that every day. We always spoke about a journey, and I am convinced that it is not yet over. We can still achieve a lot here.”
Baumgart joined the Billy Goats in 2021 and in his first season in charge, took the club to seventh in the Bundesliga and therefore qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League. After winning their qualifying game, FC were put in a group alongside Nice, Partizan and Slovacko – the Bundesliga club failed to advance from their group but fans followed in their thousands and created some memorable nights at the RheinEnergieStadion.
A 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend secured another season in the Bundesliga for FC Köln and will be playing top flight football for the first time in a row.
The Billy Goats end their season with an away trip to Werder Bremen sandwiched between home games against Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich.
