Bayer Leverkusen working on a transfer for Granit Xhaka

According to Sport1, Bayer Leverkusen are working on bringing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka back to the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen will have to pay a double-digit million fee for the 30-year-old as he has a contract at Arsenal until 2024 with an option of an extra year.

Leverkusen have been looking to increase their midfield options due to the departure of Charles Aránguiz and the possibility of Kerem Demirbay leaving in the summer, which would leave the club with just Robert Andrich as their sole defensive midfielder.

Xhaka is familiar with the Bundesliga as he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach between 2012 and 2016 making 140 appearances before moving to the Premier League for €45m.

This season, Xhaka has played 44 times for Arsenal scoring five and assisting seven as they challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title. During his time at Arsenal, Xhaka has also been the club captain before having it removed and being replaced by then-Arsenal player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
