Serge Gnabry (27) scored a brace as Bayern Munich dismantled Schalke on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas Tuchel praised the performance of Gnabry, who has scored in three consecutive Bundesliga games. “He needed rhythm, game time and a bit of luck,” said Tuchel. “It’s good and important because only goals help strikers. I’m happy with him.”
Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich put Bayern Munich into a 2-0 lead after 29 minutes before a brace from Gnabry in the 50th and 65th minute. Mathys Tel scored Bayern’s fifth of the afternoon before Noussair Mazroui added a sixth in stoppage time. That result means Bayern will remain Bundesliga leaders heading into matchday 33.
Although Gnabry has 17 goal contributions (13 goals, 4 assists) in 32 Bundesliga games, the German forward lacked confidence of late and his goal against Hertha Berlin on April 30 was his first in the Bundesliga since February 11.
But in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s absence, Gnabry has been operating as Bayern’s No. 9 and it’s paying dividends. He’s found his form at a pivotal moment in Bayern’s season as they look to secure another Bundesliga title.
