Official | SC Freiburg announce the signing of Junior Adamu from RB Salzburg

Freiburg have announced the signing of RB Salzburg forward Junior Adamu for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of €8m-€10m.

The 22-year-old joins Christian Streich’s side on a long-term deal, however, the full details of the contract will not be disclosed by the club. Despite interest from West Ham and other Bundesliga clubs, Die Breisgau were able to lure the Austrian international to the Black Forest.

“Junior is a versatile offensive player who can play centrally but also in the hanging position. He has an intense style of play, a good move to goal and is at the service of the team. As with all our young players, he still has real development potential. We want to make full use of this by working together. With his attitude and the way we work, we are optimistic about the future. We are very pleased,” said board member Jochen Saier.

Talking about the signing, Adamu would comment: “SC Freiburg has a very good reputation in Austria, which was confirmed in my discussions with those responsible and people who know the club well. I want to get even better and assert myself in the German Bundesliga. Freiburg is the right place for that.”

Adamu was part of a Salzburg side that would win the Austrian Bundesliga by seven points, with just a single loss all season. The forward would contribute with 14 goals and six assists across 40 games in all competitions for the Red Bull outfit.

The 22-year-old is the first signing of the season for Freiburg, after the permanent departure of Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken to Brentford. Streich will be hoping to strengthen the side in a few more areas before the end of the window so his side can take a step up next season and fight for Champions League qualification.
