Official | Borussia Mönchengladbach complete signing of Lukas Ullrich from Hertha Berlin

Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced they have completed the signing of left-back Lukas Ullrich from Hertha Berlin, who will join on a free in the summer.

The 19-year-old will sign a contract at Gladbach until 2027. On his signing, Ullrich said: “Borussia is a great club. I am happy to be here, to learn from the experienced players and then to attack.”

Sporting director Roland Virkus also commented on the signing: “Lukas is a promising talent. He has made a great development so far, in which Hertha, but also in the U19 national team, of which he is captain. He is an exciting player, and we are pleased that he has decided to move to us.”

The 19-year-old has been a part of Hertha’s professional squad for most of the season but he has not made his Bundesliga debut yet but has instead played for their junior teams as well as in the Regionalliga NordOst. Ullrich is also captain of Germany’s under-19 team.

Ullrich follows the same path as Luca Netz who joined Gladbach in 2021 from Hertha for €2m. The two 19-year-olds will likely be competitors for the vacant left-back position left by Ramy Bensebaini who will leave Gladbach at the end of the season.

This signing is likely to be the first of a summer rebuild for Gladbach as Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl are all leaving at the end of the season while the future of a handful of players is also still in doubt.
