Manu Koné among names Borussia Mönchengladbach could look to sell

Borussia Mönchengladbach hope to receive around €70m in player sales this summer as the Bundesliga side look to recoup some of the €56m that they’ve lost in the last three years.

According to Bild, on that list is Manu Koné, Nico Elvedi, Jordan Beyer and Marvin Friedrich.

Koné (21) isn’t short of potential suitors. Both Chelsea and PSG have enquired about the Frenchman, who is expected to break Borussia Mönchengladbach’s record for a fee received which they earned from the Granit Xhaka sale (€45m) in 2016. Koné has a contract at Borussia-Park until 2025 with an option for a further year.

Elvedi (26) has been at Borussia Mönchengladbach for eight years and has been a mainstay in the defence with 264 games across all competitions. The Switzerland international, per Transfermarkt, has a market value of €20m but will enter the final year of his contract in the summer – Die Fohlen do have the option to extend by another season.

Burnley are also likely to exercise their €15m purchase option on Beyer (22). That would see Borussia Mönchengladbach receive a considerable fee for a player that has played just 36 games for the club.

Lastly, Die Fohlen would be open to selling Friedrich, a player that Daniel Farke doesn’t seem convinced upon.

With that quartet, Borussia Mönchengladbach can expect to receive around €70m, enough to finance any necessary purchases in the transfer market. Per Bild’s report, there are also two further options that could be candidates for a sale, should the price be right.

These are Joe Scally (20) and Florian Neuhaus (26). Should Neuhaus decide against signing a new contract, then a sale would be likely as he enters the final year of his contract. Gladbach want to avoid a similar situation to Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini, both of whom will leave the club in the summer when their contracts expire.
