Micky Van de Ven on Premier League move -“If I have the chance to leave, I would like to do it.”

In an interview with ESPNnl, Wolfsburg defender Micky Van de Ven made it clear that he is hopeful of a move to the Premier League this summer.

Liverpool are the only club that have shown significant interest in the Dutch centre-back so far this window after they hired new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke. Schmadtke was the man to bring Van de Ven to Wolfsburg in 2021 for €3.5 million and both will hope to reunite this summer.

The 22-year-old would say during the interview: “If I have the chance to leave, I would like to do it,” before commenting on a potential move to the Premier League: “Maybe, yes. Who knows.” These are words that certainly will ruffle up feathers within the Wolfsburg camp and potential consequences for the defender may still come.

Van de Ven would then try to go back on his words by saying: “Of course, I feel very comfortable in Wolfsburg. So I don’t mind playing another year in Wolfsburg.” However, the damage had already been done and it is clear to the Dutchman is hopeful of a move to the Premier League.

This season, Van de Ven featured 36 times for the Wolves in all competitions where he was able to establish himself as one of the Bundesliga’s best young players. The 22-year-old also signed a new long-term deal at Wolfsburg until 2027 in March, which gives the German club leverage in the transfer market as they would want roughly €30 million for their defender.
