Liverpool interested in Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven

Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Liverpool have turned their attention to Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven as they search for a centre-back.

Liverpool’s original target was Joško Gvardiol, however, the Croatian has been deemed too expensive as RB Leipzig will only listen to offers close to €100m this summer. They have ultimately now switched their focus to Wolfsburg centre-back van de Ven.

Liverpool’s new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke brought van de Ven to Wolfsburg in 2021 for €3.5m. The 22-year-old is set to cost around €40m as he recently signed a contract extension until 2027 at the club.

This type of target clearly shows the direction that Schmadtke is taking the Liverpool recruitment strategy as they have also been linked to Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné

Van de Ven played 36 times for Wolfsburg this season as they finished eighth and just missed out on European football as they lost on the final day of the season against already relegated Hertha Berlin.
