İlkay Gündoğan prefers other options over Borussia Dortmund

As reported by Bild, Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan would prefer other options than a return to Borussia Dortmund.

The former Dortmund midfielder is out of contract this summer, meaning that he is free to leave the English champions. However, despite the interest of the Bundesliga’s runners-up, Gündoğan would prioritise a move to Barcelona or Arsenal.

The Black and Yellows had laid out a long-term offer to Gündoğan with an option to extend his stay at BvB beyond his playing career. Nevertheless, Gündoğan has turned this offer away leaving Dortmund out of the race while Saudi clubs have also made their interest clear to the German midfielder, however, there is nothing concrete as of yet.

The Manchester City captain has been instrumental for Pep Guardiola’s side throughout his time in Manchester, especially this season as the Skyblues became the second English side to claim the treble. Gündoğan has featured 51 times in all competitions for the Citizens this season scoring 11 goals while collecting seven assists.

Dortmund will be on the hunt to bolster their squad this summer after narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga title, and with the departure of influential midfielder Jude Bellingham. Edson Álvarez and Felix Nmecha have been heavily rumoured to join Die Schwarzgelben this summer with the latter boasting a similar profile to the departing English midfielder.
