Still no agreement between Borussia Dortmund and Edson Álvarez

Sky Germany reports that there has yet to be any agreement made between Borussia Dortmund and Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez.

The positive for Dortmund is that the 25-year-old wants to join the club and is waiting for Dortmund’s approach, West Ham are also said to be interested in Álvarez, as they look for a successor for Declan Rice, who is likely to leave the club in the summer.

Ajax have also yet to receive any sort of offer from Dortmund for the midfielder meaning there have also been no talks over a transfer fee yet either.

However, the interest from West Ham could drive up the price of Álvarez. Dortmund are prepared to offer €35m for the Mexican, but last summer Ajax had rejected a bid of €58m from Chelsea for the 25-year-old. The only difference now is Álvarez has two years left on his contract, instead of three.

Álvarez is not seen as a replacement for the outgoing Jude Bellingham, but the arrival of the Mexican could bring the future of Emre Can into question as they play similar roles. The 25-year-old can play as a defensive midfielder as well as a centre-back like Can while also proving to be younger. Can played a key role in Dortmund’s run-in for the title as they finished second in the Bundesliga on goal difference.
