Jörg Schmadtke likely to leave Liverpool after winter transfer window

According to Sky Germany, Liverpool sporting director Jörg Schmadtke is likely to leave the club after the winter transfer window.

Schmadtke had joined Liverpool as temporary sporting director just before last summer and during his time he used his Bundesliga connections to bring in Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. It is reported that Schmadtke played a big role in the arrivals of Szoboszlai and Endo during Liverpool’s midfield rebuild in the summer.

The former Wolfsburg director had planned to step back eventually and return to his ‘retirement’ and this will happen after the winter window.

Liverpool will once again have to search for a new sporting director ahead of the summer transfer window. The club had been linked to Max Eberl but it is increasingly likely that the former Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig sporting director will move to his boyhood club Bayern Munich and assist sporting director Christoph Freund with the club’s transfer activity.
