Emre Can to either be sold this summer or extend his contract

Sport1 reports that Borussia Dortmund will sell Emre Can this summer if he does not agree to a new contract at the club as they do not want to lose him on a free transfer.

Can’s current contract expires in 2024 and he has made no effort in trying to extend his contract at the club. This has meant Dortmund are now preparing for a departure of the 29-year-old as they do not want to lose him for nothing in 2024.

The issue for Dortmund is the fact that Can’s salary is close to €10m which will make it difficult to offload the midfielder, while Can also feels comfortable in Dortmund.

In the second half of last season, Can showed his importance to Dortmund as he was a key piece in their title charge with Bayern Munich. However, with the potential arrival of Edson Àlvarez, Can could be pushed out of the starting 11 once again as the Mexican plays a similar position to the 29-year-old.
