Bundesliga Predictions | Round 34

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs Mainz

My match of the week, and probably that of 80% of everyone following German football, is Dortmund against Mainz. Can Dortmund make the final step and finally dislodge Bayern Munich after 10 years of dominance? Or will they once again falter under the heavy weight of being able to win a title? Considering Dortmund’s dominance since the World Cup break, on paper at least, this seems to be a no-brainer. The Black and Yellows should ride this home quite easily, which is why I went for a confident 2-0 win for Dortmund.

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Mainz
  • RB Leipzig 1-2 Schalke
  • Union Berlin 2-0 Werder Bremen
  • Köln 2-2 Bayern Munich
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 Augsburg
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Freiburg
  • Wolfsburg 3-0 Hertha Berlin
  • Bochum 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen
  • Stuttgart 2-0 Hoffenheim

Stefan’s Game of the Week: RB Leipzig vs Schalke

While most football fans will be keeping an eye on the title race, Schalke’s trip to RB Leipzig should prove to be just as dramatic. The Royal Blues need a win against one of the league’s most formidable teams, who tend to perform especially well in front of their own fans. But with one eye on the German Cup final, I suspect Thomas Reis’ side may just manage to pick up a famous win in Saxony and save themselves from relegation.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 Augsburg
  • Bochum 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen
  • Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Mainz
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Freiburg
  • Köln 0-2 Bayern Munich
  • RB Leipzig 1-2 Schalke
  • Stuttgart 1-1 Hoffenheim
  • Union Berlin 2-1 Werder Bremen
  • Wolfsburg 2-0 Hertha Berlin

Scores after MD33: Manu – 189, Stefan – 174.
