Borussia Dortmund plan on extending Emre Can’s contract

According to WAZ, Borussia Dortmund plan to extend Emre Can’s contract at the club.

The German international’s current contract is due to expire in June 2024. As of yet, there appears to be no incentive from Can in terms of extending his stay at BVB. This led to reports of the midfielder possibly facing an exit this summer.

However, the message from Dortmund is clear, they want to keep Can.

The plan is to offer the 29-year-old a two or three-year contract. Currently on a salary of €8m-€10m a year, the club will look to reduce his gross pay.

In the second half of last season, Can showed his importance to Dortmund as he was a key piece in their title charge with Bayern Munich. However, with the potential arrival of Edson Àlvarez, Can could be pushed out of the starting 11 once again as the Mexican plays a similar position to the 29-year-old.
