Bayern Munich clear the way for Max Eberl

On Monday, Bayern Munich’s supervisory board met with honorary president Uli Hoeneß, where two significant decisions were made. Firstly, as confirmed by the club on X, Andreas Jung, who has been working for Der Rekordmeister since 1996, will not renew his contract at the club, which expires in 2024.

The decision to let go of their marketing director means that there is an extra space on the board in Bavaria. During the meeting, the other key decision was to discuss who would fill the role left behind by Jung.

According to Bild, the green light has been given for the club to appoint a sporting director. It has been widely reported for many months that Bayern have been keen to lure Max Eberl to Bavaria, and after Monday’s meeting, it now appears an eventuality.

The 50-year-old has been without a job since being released by RB Leipzig in September, and while Der Rekordmeister will have to negotiate a fee with Die Roten Bullen, it is an obstacle that will not stand in their way. However, Eberl may have to wait until 2024 for Bayern to buy him out of his contract in Saxony.

This is because the record champions want to go into the January transfer window with sporting director Christoph Freund, head coach Thomas Tuchel, and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. Dreesen proved his negotiating skills in the summer with the signings of Harry Kane and Min-jae Kim, and Bayern are hopeful of seeing the same in the winter.

Nevertheless, once the appointment of Eberl is made, the transfer negotiations will largely be left in his hands.
