Emil Forsberg linked with a move to New York Red Bulls

Multiple outlets have reported that RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Emil Forsberg has been linked to New York Red Bulls but the reports differ on how far along a move is.

Bild and Sky Germany have both reported that a move is close to being completed and the Swedish international will leave the club in the winter to move to the US. It was previously unlikely that Forsberg would leave Leipzig as he currently has a contract at the club until 2026 and the Bundesliga side had planned with him. Forsberg has played 15 times for Leipzig this season, scoring twice.

However, Kicker reports that a move to Leipzig’s sister club is not as far along as first thought. Forsberg is keen to move to the MLS, Leipzig must first find a replacement before he can leave due to the lack of depth behind Xavi Simons, Dani Olmo and Christoph Baumgartner.

Since joining from Malmo in 2015, Forsberg has been one of the key figures in Leipzig’s rise from the 2.Bundesliga into the club that they are today.
