Alexander Nübel to remain at AS Monaco

Speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, Stefan Backs, agent of Alexander Nübel, confirms that his client will remain at AS Monaco despite interest from Bayern Munich to end the player’s loan prematurely.

The Principality club has no intention of allowing Nübel to return to Bayern, with both clubs needing to reach an agreement regarding a compensation fee to end the 26-year-old’s loan early.

“It’s true,” said Backs. “The change is off the table. Alexander will play in Monaco in the second-half of the season.”

Nübel’s two-year loan at Monaco ends in the summer and the goalkeeper has a contract with Bayern Munich until 2025. The Rekordmeister still want to tie the former Schalke ‘keeper down to a new deal, but Nübel wants reassurances over his playing time.

This comes after Manuel Neuer suffered a broken leg in a freak skiing accident following Germany’s World Cup exit, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.

Per the report, Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić is in concrete negotiations with Borussia Mönchengladbach to sign Yann Sommer as a replacement.
