Sebastian Kehl: “Moukoko can accept this offer – or we separate”

During an interview with Kicker, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl gave his final statement regarding the Youssoufa Moukoko contract sega.

The story has dominated the headlines for weeks. Will Moukoko sign a contract extension or will he leave for free in the summer to one of the many top European clubs waiting to sign him?

Kehl sat down with Kicker and provided the latest and most likely last update before we finally get a conclusion.

“We have put together a very attractive offer that gives him a lot of room for development. That should lead to a decision. He has to make it with his environment and his advisor,” said the sporting director.

He continues: Youssoufa can now accept this offer and commit to Borussia Dortmund – or we will go our separate ways. I would like him to choose us because he is not yet at the end of his development and I am huge I see potential in him. But there are limits for us as a club. And we have shown these limits. Now it’s up to him to confess in a timely manner.”

Within the next week, Moukoko is expected to make his decision. At the start of January, BVB set a deadline for talks to end at the end of the month. If a deal could not be reached, then it becomes clear that the 18-year-old will leave Dortmund in the summer.

Moukoko has experienced a breakout in the latter part of the year. Filling in for Sébastien Haller, the 18-year-old has scored six goals and assisted three in his 14 matches in the league. His form not only displaced emergency signing Anthony Modeste, but Moukoko also earned a call-up to the German national team for the World Cup making a brief appearance against Japan.
