Ryan Gravenberch’s move to Bayern Munich almost collapsed over €1m figure

Bayern Munich eventually got their desired player in Ryan Gravenberch but only after difficult negotiations with Ajax. According to Sport Bild, Gravenberch to Bayern almost collapsed after a disagreement over €1m. Because of the Dutchman’s desire to join the Bundesliga side, in the end Rafaela Pimenta and her agency paid €500,000 and Bayern paid the remaining €500,000.

This comes after Ajax originally wanted €35m for Gravenberch, who was entering the final year of his contract. Bayern Munich insisted on €18.5m plus €5.5m in bonuses and a 7% sell-on. All parties eventually came to an agreement and the 20-year-old joined Bayern last month, joining fellow Ajax teammate Noussair Mazraoui at the Bundesliga champions.

Upon joining Bayern Munich, speaking in his first interview at the club, Gravenberch said: “When the offer came from Bayern, I didn’t have to think about it for long. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs around, players from all over the world want to play for this club. I’m coming to Munich to win lots of titles and Bayern are used to winning lots of titles. Anything is possible with this club, including winning the Champions League.”
