RB Leipzig’s Florian Scholz welcomes Champions League tie with Manchester City

Those associated with RB Leipzig have been reacting to their tough last 16 tie against Manchester City in the Champions League. Leipzig are no stranger to playing Man City in the competition as they were in the same group in last year’s tournament. In Germany, The Saxons got the better of their opponents winning 2-1 but also lost the reverse fixture in a nine-goal thriller which ended 6-3 to the English side.

Leipzig’s commercial director of sport, Florian Scholz, has welcomed the clash and is looking forward to a great football spectacle by saying: “We’re definitely going to face one of the best teams in the world. Manchester City is a big challenge, but it’s also an exciting and very attractive draw.

“Pep Guardiola’s team has Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne and has numerous top stars in his ranks and is one of the favourites for the title. We already know City from the last Champions League season and not only recently proved against Real Madrid that on a very good day we can also beat the absolute top teams can survive.”

Club captain, Willi Orban also understands the mammoth challenge ahead. The centre-back explained: “No one is excited about Manchester City now because we all know that it is one of the most difficult draws. But we see it as a sport, as a challenge.”

RB Leipzig have the pleasure of hosting Manchester City on the night of love, February 14th 2023. We’ll soon find out if it’s a romantic evening for The Saxons or a nightmare. The second leg in Manchester is scheduled for the following month on March 7th.
