RB Leipzig reluctant to give up Konrad Laimer to Bayern Munich

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff discussed Konrad Laimer’s (25) situation at the club with 12 months remaining on his deal and interest from Bayern Munich.

“Konni Laimer is a very important part of our game,” said Mintzlaff. “We would be very reluctant to give him up. We discussed internally what would need to happen for us to potentially open the door to a move. But assume Konni is significantly more likely to stay with us next season than playing anywhere else.”

On whether Leipzig would be open to selling to Bayern, Mintzlaff added: “One thing is clear, we are in a competition and don’t want to strengthen Bayern every summer. It may be flattering to a certain extent that the great Bayern are looking at us to see how they improve their squad but we also want to take our next step. For that we need players like Konrad Laimer.”

Bayern Munich value Laimer at €20m and know that Leipzig are under pressure to sell the Austrian midfielder if they don’t agree a contract extension. And so, the Bundesliga champions are in no rush to make an offer but Laimer wants clarity on his future.
