Yann Sommer’s move to Nice uncertain despite reports of a deal

According to Sport Bild, Yann Sommer (33) could stay at Borussia Mönchengladbach despite the club supposedly agreeing to a deal with French side Nice.

The Switzerland goalkeeper has long been linked with a move to France where he’s wanted by former Gladbach coach Lucien Favre.

On Tuesday, it was reported in Frech media that Nice had their bid of €2.5m for Sommer accepted with a deal now almost certain.

However, reports in Germany suggest the transfer saga is not yet over.

In a recent interview, Sommer himself said: “I’ve had a great time here so far and appreciate this club very much. We are in a good and very open exchange.”

He concluded his side of the story by admitting he could also “of course imagine an extension of his contract, which expires in 2023.”

It’s clear that the Gladbach star has a brilliant working relationship with the club and wouldn’t want to leave things on a bad note.

Should Gladbach wish to waiver the offer of €2.5m, it’s very possible that Sommer may decide to extend his contract for another year so his side at least get something in return for his departure.
