Official | Rabbi Matondo joins Rangers from Schalke

Schalke have today confirmed the departure of 21-year-old Wales international Rabbi Matondo to Scottish side Rangers for a reported €3m, three years after joining the Bundesliga side for around €10m.

“Rabbi had a really good season in Belgium, but we told him that we couldn’t keep him here due to financial reasons. He accepted that completely professionally. We wish him all the best both on and off the pitch in the future,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Matondo arrived at Schalke from Manchester City after the Royal Blues saw the success of Jadon Sancho at rivals Borussia Dortmund. Matondo played just 31 games across all competitions for S04, scoring two goals.

After failing to impress, he spent six months on loan at Championship side Stoke City before spending last season on loan at Belgian side Cercle Brugge, where he scored 10 and created two in 27.

However, they decided against activating their option to buy due to financial constraints.
