Newcastle United remain interested in Chelsea’s Timo Werner

After enquiring last summer, Newcastle United remain interested in signing Timo Werner from Chelsea, according to Sport Bild. Juventus are also vying to sign the Germany international.

Should Werner (26) leave Chelsea, then it’s more likely going to be towards the end of August, after the former RB Leipzig forward wants to determine his chances of playing under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea. Per the report, these are expected to be slimmer, following the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Werner has three-years remaining on his current Chelsea contract and earns a reported €20m per year. According to Leipziger Volkszeitung, Werner would also be open to re-joining RB Leipzig as he wants more playing time to improve his chances of representing Germany at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Since joining Chelsea from Leipzig in 2020 for €53m, Werner has scored 23 and created 21 in 89 games across all competitions but has struggled in the Premier League, scoring just 10 in 56.

Earlier this year, Borussia Dortmund showed interest in signing Werner.
