Daniel Siebert admits error: “Penalty kick would have been the right decision.”

Speaking to Kicker, referee Daniel Siebert admits that he should have awarded Borussia Dortmund a penalty against Bayern Munich on Saturday evening for a challenge on Jude Bellingham.

“That was the biggest mistake in the game and I’m very annoyed about my assessment of this scene. [Benjamin] Pavard didn’t play the ball, his leg was an obstacle in Bellingham’s path. Therefore it was a foul. The fact that Pavard touched the ball shortly afterwards is irrelevant. Penalty kick would have been the right decision,” said Siebert.

“On the field, Pavard covered my view of the decisive contact.”
