Bundesliga Predictions | Round 4

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Stefan’s game of the week: RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg

Although neither club will be winning any popularity contests anytime soon in German football, RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg locking horns on Saturday should prove to be more than enticing for the on-field drama. Both clubs have more than enough talent to win this game and it certainly feels as though Domenico Tedesco and Niko Kovac’s teams are just waiting to click into gear and drive up the league table. A defeat for either team could put a huge amount of pressure on their head coach, so while it may be too early to call this a “must win”, it kinda is.

  • Freiburg 2-0 Bochum
  • RB Leipzig 2-2 Wolfsburg
  • Mainz 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen
  • Hoffenheim 2-1 Augsburg
  • Hertha Berlin 0-2 Borussia Dortmund
  • Schalke 1-2 Union Berlin
  • Bayern Munich 3-2 Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • FC Köln 1-0 Stuttgart
  • Werder Bremen 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Manu’s game of the week: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Mönchengladbach

My game of the weeks is the original Klassiker between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich. Those two teams dominated German football in the 1970s and early 1980s and the matches between the two clubs have always been fierce. In the modern era, Dortmund somewhat replaced, although poorly, as the new Klassiker opponent for Bayern. Gladbach, in fact, still provide a banana skin for Bayern most often, last year the Foals smashed the Rekordmeister in the DFB Pokal 5-0, despite both teams starting their best XIs. Whether Gladbach can provide a similar shock this season remains to be seen, however. Bayern have been tremendous and while my heart hopes for an upset, my mind says that this will be a pretty straightforward affair.

  • Freiburg 2-0 Bochum
  • RB Leipzig 2-1 Wolfsburg
  • Mainz 0-3 Bayer Leverkusen
  • Hoffenheim 2-1 Augsburg
  • Hertha Berlin 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
  • Schalke 1-2 Union Berlin
  • Bayern Munich 3-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • FC Köln 2-1 Stuttgart
  • Werder Bremen 0-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Scores after MD3Manu – 15, Stefan – 14.
