Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Roland Virkus denies offers for Breel Embolo and Yann Sommer

Borussia Mönchengladbach Roland Virkus has again reiterated that the Bundesliga side are yet to receive any offers for their players whilst discussions regarding contract extensions are ongoing.

“We’ve had talks with different players. We know what the players want and the players know what we want,” said Virkus. “Basically, we don’t have to and don’t want to give up any players. Now let’s see what happens and then we’ll react to that.”

Both Yann Sommer and Breel Embolo are being courted by Nice and Monaco respectively but contrary to reports, Borussia Mönchengladbach are yet to receive any offers: “If there was something, I would say so,” added Virkus. “But there is nothing.”

Asked whether decisions in regards to contract extensions or further transfers could happen next week, Virkus added: “It’s hard to say. The transfer market is still moving slowly. As far as the issue of contract extensions is concerned, it’s never up to a single person, it can always take a bit of time. That’s why it’s difficult to make a forecast. But as I said, talks are ongoing.”

Sommer has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Nice whilst Monaco have submitted an offer for Embolo, to Virkus’ denial. The duo are entering the final year of their contracts, as are Marcus Thuram, Jonas Hofmann and Alassane Pléa.
