Borussia Dortmund considering Torsten Frings as new assistant

According to Sky Germany, former Borussia Dortmund player Torsten Frings is one of the favourites being considered for the vacant assistant role. Since coach Peter Hermann announced his retirement, BVB have been on the lookout for Edin Terzić’s new right-hand man

As per the report, former player Frings is being closely linked with the role. Frings played for Dortmund between 2002 and 2004 and also earned 79 caps for the German national team.

Since retiring from playing, Frings has been involved in coaching for several clubs. His previous clubs include Darmstadt 98 between December 2016 and December 2017 and Werder Bremen between 2014 and 2016. Most recently, Frings was head coach for 3. Liga side SV Meppen July 2020 and April 2021.

It’s important for Terzić and his players to immediately bond with whoever the new assistant coach is as BVB have a lot of work to do in the second half of the season. Currently in 6th spot and nine points off leaders Bayern Munich, Dortmund need to be more consistent and climb into the Champions League spots as a minimum.
