Official | Hoffenheim sign Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards on loan

Hoffenheim have announced the signing of 20-year-old American defender Chris Richards on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season.

“I’m happy to be able to take the next step in my development in Hoffenheim. It’s important that I can now collect more match practice in the Bundesliga,” said Richards. “I have big goals and would like to recommend myself for other tasks at Bayern Munich.”

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić added: “Chris is a great talent. He was a key player with our amateurs in the third division and gained experience with the first team, even in the Champions League. Together we decided that Chris will take the next step at Hoffenheim.” 

Richards played 59 games under now Hoffenheim head coach Sebastian Hoeneß during his time for Bayern Munich II and will now play for him former coach in the Bundesliga, adding depth to Hoffenheim’s defence who have struggled with injuries.
