Official | FC Köln send Anthony Modeste on loan to St Étienne

Bundesliga side FC Köln have announced the departure of 32-year-old French striker Anthony Modeste on loan to Ligue 1 side St Étienne on loan until the end of the season.

“I’m looking forward to the time in my home country and the chance to get as much game time as possible at St Étienne,” said Modeste. “I wish my Köln teammates the best for the Rückrunde and I’m crossing my fingers that we achieve our goal and stay in the league.”

The Frenchman scored 45 goals in 73 games during his first spell for FC Köln before returning to the club in November 2018, where he scored 11 goals in 48 games.

“Anthony hasn’t had an easy time,” said sporting director Horst Heldt. “As an opportunity for a transfer arose, we spoke openly. We hope that Tony plays as much as possible, scores goals and finds his form.”

The Bundesliga side will save around €1 million in salary costs and compensates for the January arrivals of Emmanuel Dennis and Max Meyer.
