Official | Bayern Munich sign Dayot Upamecano for €42.5m

Bayern Munich today announced the signing of 22-year-old defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig for €42.5 million.

The Bundesliga side activated the release clause of the Frenchman and have agreed a five-year contract with Upamecano, who will join the club in the summer.

“We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for Bayern Munich. We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years,” said Hasan Salihamidžić.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche added: “It’s a pity given his performances for RB Leipzig because he has developed into a cornerstone of the team, is an exceptional defender and a great guy.”

Upamecano has played 139 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig since joining the Bundesliga side from RB Salzburg in 2017.

The France international will provide competition for Niklas Süle, Jerome Boateng, Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard and will replace David Alaba, who is likely to leave Bayern Munich when his contract expires in the summer.
