Hasan Salihamidžić confirms Dayot Upamecano will sign a 5-year contract at Bayern Munich

Speaking in an interview with Bild, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić confirms that RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano will join the Bundesliga champions on a five-year contract.

“I can confirm that and we’re very happy. We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth for several months,” said Salihamidžić. “We knew we had tough competition. We presented him with our vision of his career at Bayern.

“At the end of a long process, the player, his family and his management were convinced that FC Bayern was the right partner for them.

“Dayot will play for Bayern Munich for the next five seasons.”

Bayern Munich have activated Upamecano’s €42.5 million release clause, bringing the Frenchman’s time at RB Leipzig to an end after joining the club in 2017.

Hansi Flick’s side faced competition from Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool to sign the defender but according to Goal, Upamecano’s decision was made easier because of the French connection within the Bayern Munich.
