Joachim Löw discusses Germany squad, Joshua Kimmich’s injury & a potential return for Thomas Müller & Co.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Germany head coach Joachim Löw discussed his a possible return for former Germany internationals Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich’s injury and their friendly against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

“Kevin Trapp will start in goal,” said Löw. “Ilkay [Gündogan] played a difficult game on Sunday and we have to be careful with him because he’s important for the Nations League games. Rüdiger, Koch, Waldschmidt and Brandt will all start tomorrow.”

Löw on Müller, Hummels and Boateng: “At the moment, I’m planning Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and Jérôme Boateng. If there will be another situation before the Euros with several players missing, I will reassess the situation.”

Löw on Mario Götze: “I’m happy for him. His goal in the 2014 World Cup final was of course very important but also raised very high expectations. I supported his decision to leave the Bundesliga. Now he’s doing well again but we have to give him time.”

Löw on Joshua Kimmich’s meniscus injury: “Such injuries were bound to happen with the current schedule. We coaches have to be very cautious otherwise we’ll have a big problem next year. The people in charge of the schedule have to make decisions because it’s way too tight.”
