Benjamin Pavard explains his decision to join Bayern Munich

France international and World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard discussed his eventual confirmation of a transfer to Bayern Munich, their French connection & why he chose to remain in Germany in an exclusive interview with Bild.

Pavard on when hearing of Bayern Munich’s interest…

Many clubs were interested. But when the offer of Bayern came, I didn’t have to think for a second. Bayern is the best club in the world for me. I want to continue the history of this club, and win many titles there.

Pavard on choosing Bayern Munich & remaining in Germany…

When I stood with Stuttgart in the Allianz Arena tunnel last season, I saw the Bayern players standing next to me and felt the atmosphere. I knew that I want to play there someday. For me, the move was not a question of money. I love Germany, the mentality, the Bundesliga. That’s why I really wanted to stay here.

Pavard on Bayern’s French connection…

These are players at Bayern that I know well from the national team, we get along very well. But the “French Connection” was not the reason for me to go to Munich. There are many players of my age at the club, there is a transition there and I want to be part of it.

Pavard on his best position…

I like to play as a center-back, but if the coach sees me at right back or a six, that’s no problem for me. I will adapt.

Pavard on his time at Stuttgart…

I don’t know how VfB fans will react to my decision. Maybe some will boo me. If so, I accept it. But I would like to say the following: I was always honest with VfB. I hope fans will consider our difficult situation. Only with them together can we get out of there.
