Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the departure of new signing Luca Erlein on loan to 2. Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus.
The 2. Bundesliga is considered an ideal environment for the development of the German U19 international. Energie Cottbus gained promotion to Germany’s second division for the upcoming season and are strengthening their squad in the transfer market ahead of the new campaign.
Erlein was part of the German U19 side that played in the Euros this summer having played every minute as Germany finished runners-up to Spain in the tournament.
Upon the announcement of the loan, Leverkusen director of football Kim Falkenberg said: “We hope this loan move to Cottbus will enable Luca to take the next important step by getting as much playing time as possible in Bundesliga 2. His development so far has been very promising, and we are absolutely confident he will progress to the Bundesliga in due course.”
